To a lot of people, security guard is an easy thing but the truth prevails when a a security is injured or have died while on duty. It is not at all being a security guard. Some have entered to becoming a security guard after working as a police officer, although, there are also those who have started as a security guard then became a police officer after gaining experience and some years in college.

Having a security guard certification can vary from one state to another. There are some states  that are requiring you to have the license first. As a general rule however, you are required to be 18 years old. The next big thing that you also have to consider is your health. No security guard can become security guard if they do not have a medical certificate allowing them to take the training to becoming a security guard.

Security guard certification can be difficult to acquire if you do not pass the medical exams, training such as those on how to handle an emergency, training on first aid, and training on how you would react if you have suspected a criminal in a certain place. You have to know the rules and you should never go beyond the rules, otherwise, you will be the one left in prison and not your suspected criminal.

If you are eying to be an armed security, this is another thing as you will have to undergo special training that will assess your capability of having a weapon. You must be very strong . Aside from this, you will also undergo restraint training to make sure that you know what you will be doing in case someone attacks you. You will also have to know the ways on how keep your weapon away while you are under physical attack. This is very important to avoid accidental shooting or hurting anyone or yourself.

There is no need to be a college graduate if you want to acquire security guard certification. But, to be employed easily, a 2 year associate degree may be helpful especially if you are eying for a supervisory position. A certificate in criminal justice is also necessary but not a must thing to have. On the other hand, self defense training is a must especially if you are going to be deployed in an en  environment such as casino because this kind of place is prone to more fights than any other establishments.
